July 3 – Laverty Falls

It was a cloudy day when we got up. There was even a bit of fog. Later in the day it got nice and sunny. It did stay cool enough to be good hiking weather.

Since we hadn’t been to a waterfall in quite a while, we decided to do the 5.5 km hike to Laverty Falls. The trail head is almost in the middle of the park, down a 7 km dirt road off of the highway.

On the drive in we crossed this stream which was deeper than we thought. We had to back up and get a picture.

This trail was also marked as easy and it actually wasn’t too bad. There was the normal amount of roots and there were not a lot of flat spots but the slope was gentle. We just wished the downhill was on the way back rather than on the way in. It makes coming back seem much longer.

A nice walk down through the forest.

There were quite a few streams to cross. They were extra wide and muddy from all the recent rain.

Just before the falls we climbed up through this crack in the rocks.

I walked up stream a bit to a corner. This is looking farther up.

And back towards the falls.

The trail continues to the bottom where we sat and had lunch.

This kid had water shoes on and was able to get right up close.

As we walked by, this tiny bird made a lot of noise and flapped about. I assume it was a mother trying to lead us away from its nest.

We got back to the RV about 3. We thought about going somewhere else because of the sunny weather but I decided I had better do something about our smashed mirror. Late yesterday we had made the 40 minute each way trek into the nearest large town to pick up some things. I went to Canadian Tire and picked up some replacement mirrors. They aren’t the right size but I managed to stick them on and they should do for now.

I checked the website of the company that makes the mirror assembly and they do sell the just the mirrors. I will probably order them and get them shipped to our cottage so I can install them we we get there in August.
