May 13 – To Crofton, BC

Today we started our slow journey up the east coast of Vancouver Island. There is isn’t much on the west coast except Tofino, which we will eventually visit, so we will explore this side of the island in detail.

There are not many RV parks or campgrounds between Victoria and Nanaimo.  I found a few that seemed very small and were mostly used by people to live in. The one we are in is pretty much that and it is a bit out of the way to the things we want to see but it is right on the ocean.

Not the greatest view. I wish those trees were gone.

The sites down lower have no sewer and only 15 amp power. It’s kind of hot here so I think I will enjoy some long showers and not worry about filling up the tanks.

There is a boardwalk along the shoreline.

Some nice homes behind the bushes.

This dock to nowhere was gated off.

There is a small harbour.

One of Crofton’s claims to fame is that you can get one of the ferries to Salt Spring Island here.

The other is a pulp and paper mill. The reviews said that you can’t smell it. Let’s hope so.

This tiny tug was hauling in a barge full of wood pulp.

Right behind it was a huge tug hauling another barge of about the same size. It must have been a lot heavier.

We walked up into downtown Crofton.

There were only a few stores. Jennie checked out the trading post.

After a quick tour we headed back. Jennie always checks out the beach since it was low tide.

We are here for a week.
