May 4 – BC Legislature and Downtown

Yesterday we stayed around the RV. It was a warm and mostly cloudy but we needed a break. I took advantage of the fact that this RV park allows you to wash your RV. Most don’t. I got rid of all the grime from our cross country trip. The rest of the day was just reading and relaxing.

Today we went back downtown and did a tour of the BC Legislature Building.

To get a bit of exercise we parked (for free) in the nearby Beacon Hill Park that we visited a few days ago.

Outside the park, we wondered if this school had Eric Cartman as their mascot.

Inside the door we had to go through a metal detector so off came the belt, camera and packs to be X-rayed. Mine went through OK but they asked Jennie about something that was attached to her keys. It was just a little bottle of hand sanitizer so she was OK.

However! Later at lunch I looked down at my pack and realized that it still had the can of pepper bear spray sitting in one of the open side pockets. Somehow I don’t think I should have been allowed to take that in.

The guided tours didn’t start until 4 pm today so we just got a self guided tour brochure and were allowed to wander around a small section of the first and second floors.

First up was the rotunda with a Haida canoe.

I took another 360 degree photosphere image and uploaded to my google photos page. If you click the following link it will open up the image and you can scroll around it by clicking and holding your mouse.

There is always a gift shop at the exit.

A really old tree on the front lawn.

We headed across the street to check out the Empress Hotel. These helpful signs showed us the way. It’s a bit of a walk to the Chateau Frontenac.

There really wasn’t much to see. Most of the outside is covered in scaffolding and a lot of the interior, that we were allowed into, was being renovated.

We started at the conference center behind it.

We wandered over to the area where they were serving tea. I am not sure if this is the normal place for it or they had been moved by the renovations. It was a balcony overlooking the front door.

We just couldn’t get ourselves to spend that much money ( $51 pp).

More waiting to be served.

We had brought our lunch so we went over to the waterfront to have a rest. It sure was empty compared to last Friday.

We meandered around downtown for a while.

In the central area of a mall there were a bunch of people paying rapt attention to their psychics.

I guess it used to be another Eaton's Center.

  1. Great photosphere picture! When we went for high tea at the Empress Hotel it was in a beautifully decorated older room with tapestries. Went there back in the 80's.
