Aug 30 – Around Bayfield, Wisconsin

We had a relatively lazy day today. First we went into town to have some fresh caught, this morning, whitefish at the Pier Plaza restaurant on the waterfront.

Then we checked out the pier again. Looking back at town. Most of it is on a hill so a lot of people get great view of the harbour.

It was a lot more windy and wavy today.

This was the cruise companies glass bottomed boat coming back.

I didn’t realize that the army has boats.

This great looking wooden sailboat as available for charter.

We drove around town for a while to check out some of the large homes and inns. Everything seemed so new. We hardly saw any old buildings at all.

I guess this old iron bridge used to be a road over a ravine but now it is just for foot traffic.

One motel we passed on the road said “Gardens open to the Public”. If they have a sign like that they must be good so we stopped to check it out. Somebody has a serious green thumb.

The guardians.

Biker gnomes?

An idea for all of Jennie’s stones.

A great view of the lake from their patio.

While we were there this eagle kept gliding back and forth overhead on the strong onshore wind.

This area is famous for its orchards and berry farms. They have a huge apple festival in October. We were going to drive to a few of them to check them out but after we got to the first one we realized that we are a bit too late for berries and too early for the apples. As a consolation, I had read about the apple cider donuts at our first stop. They are very good.

Since it was still early we drove the short distance up to the top of the peninsula and the Little Sand Bay area of the national seashore.

The was a nice small campground and a narrow sandy beach.

I think I should get a graphic like this on my boat.

IMG_1040862

In the park there was a large group of young people doing a voyageur style group relay race. The axe throwing target is in the foreground.

After the girl finished transferring the water from bucket to bucket, the guy had to carry the log down to the lake and dunk himself. I felt the water. It was not that warm.

IMG_1040863

I am not sure if they came here in these giant canoes or just used them around here.

Then home.
