May 6 – Bear Creek Provincial Park

Unfortunately I found out that two of the hikes I had planned to do this week are closed off due the trails being too eroded. Therefore I have to do a bit more research to keep us busy. We can’t waste any nice days.

Today’s hike at Bear Creek Provincial Park was a short one at only 2.5 km but it had some great view down into the canyon created by the creek. An advantage of being here in the spring is that the creeks and rivers are really overflowing with water making them more dramatic.

The park is almost directly across Okanogan Lake from us. We had to go down through Kelowna, across the lake on a bridge and then back up the other side.

We did the Mid Canyon Trail and then continued on the Canyon Rim Trail the rest of the way around the loop.

We got there around 11 and with all the picture stops and lunch break we left at around 1:30.

It’s a steep climb up from the parking lot.

A photosphere from here (because our internet is good).

If that didn’t get our hearts going, this certainly did.

A short flat walk to the first viewpoint. These yellow flowers, called Arrowleaf Balsamroot, were out everywhere.

There are going to be lots of pictures of the creek, far below.

I think this was the best viewpoint so naturally a photosphere.

Onwards and upwards.

The next viewpoint. We eventually get to the one across the canyon.

Then down to cross to the other side. Jennie is already down there.

And why not another photosphere.

Along the creek for a short while.

Getting back towards the start we got some great view of the lake, bridge and Kelowna. It looks like there might have been a fire here.

There were lots of sailors out today.

Somebody was cruising the updrafts.

Our lunchtime viewpoint.

The section just below us did a 90 degree turn so there was lots of splashing.

More great lake views and then down a long set of stairs back to cross the creek.

And short climb to close the loop and back to the car.

On the way home we did a quick drive through the Kelowna waterfront but being Sunday, it was packed. Some other day.
