Aug 14 – Around Nelson

We first headed into town to check out the visitor’s center in the old railway station.

We loved this little bear sculpture out front.

I saw my first Tesla Model 3 in the wild. I think the couple must have just gotten it because they seemed to have a hard time figuring out the charging station.

There is a small Japanese garden and Cottonwood Falls just a short walk from here.

On the walk we saw this old gasworks being used as a veterinary hospital.

An interesting fence.

The gardens are buried away behind an industrial area. While we were there Nelson’s mayor was using the setting to record a speech. She asked where we were from and told us they were working on improving the surrounding area.

This was the entrance to the garden

This is what was behind us and what we walked through to get there.

This bridge is over the creek. The falls are just upstream to the right.

This tree had one little red spot.

We got a late start today so this was a good place for lunch. Once again it was a bad time for pictures but it looked very nice in person.

Of course I climbed up nearer the falls.

And the photosphere.

We walked back to the bridge and over to the other side because the view of the falls was better.

Then back to the car and down to the waterfront.

Nelson is on the south side of the lake and our campground is on the north side. The only bridge across is just called the Big Orange Bridge.

There is a 7 km walkway along the waterfront. It starts by the bridge and this beach. Then it heads west,

We first stopped to check out the gardens.

It is another hot day. We just made it to the other end of the beach before we stopped at a shady spot to people watch. There were a whole bunch of kids here at a day camp being herded around.

IMG_1055528-Pano

Someone carried a lot of rocks out into the water to make this heart shape.

IMG_1055525

We continued along the shoreline next to some sports fields.

IMG_1055531-Pano

There were a lot of Canada Geese. There were signs warning people that the city sometimes sets off loud noisemakers to scare them off. I don;t think it is working.

IMG_1055535-Pano

Jennie tired out some of the exercise equipment.

IMG_1055530

This old trolley runs up and down the waterfront. A ride is only $2, We should have gone.

IMG_1055539

We didn't go very far along the trail before turning around as there was very little shade.

I thought that this heron sculpture was a bit weird.

Heading back to the car.

And home for some ice cream and a nap in a hot RV. We actually moved the RV to face a different direction. There is a nice breeze coming from the lake but the way we were facing it just hit the windshield. We turned 90 degrees so that it could blow through. It helped a lot.
